Antique Victorian 1849 watch chain necklace set in sterling silver. The watch chain is designed for the gentleman's pocket watch which would have sat in his top waist coat pocket. This piece has been extended to be worn as a necklace with its medal which would also have been worn along the waistcoat.
The chain has lion hallmarks on each link on the chain indicating the piece is 'sterling silver'. The t-bar and two clips are hallmarked with a lion and the letter 'A' indicating the piece dates back to 1849-1850. The medal is hallmarked with the maker WHH, Anchor, Lion and Letter 'X' indicating the piece was hallmarked in Birmingham, England in 1922-1923 from sterling silver.
The necklace has a great amount of history, it is a pleasure to wear.

The necklaces measures 38cm / 15" in length, with a drop of 8cm / 3".
