A robust Antique Victorian guard chain made up of strong Silver cable links which have been gilded in 18ct Yellow Gold.

The chain is complete with a hinged clasp at the end which may have been used to attach a pocket watch or a cylinder of fur known as a Muff to keep the wearers hands warm in winter. 

The chain has developed a lovely smoothness with age and each link shines wonderfully in the light. It can be worn as one long chain or wrapped twice around the neck.
